Queer youth are at higher risk of mental health issues when they don’t have access to affirming spaces where they’re accepted and\, better yet\, celebrated. An affirming space can be a school\, a classroom\, or a teacher. Join us on Tuesday June 18th at 7 PM ET\, to learn more about becoming that affirming space for the queer youth in your world.\n\n\n\nPlease register in advance for this meeting\, and feel free to share the registration link with your friends and colleagues:\n\nhttps://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJ0tduqgqDIqHdBKhZDbWq9RRWXCGNZyZlL0 \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. \n\nAbout Elena Rosemond \nElena Rosemond (she/her) has spent her career in education\, with the bulk of the past twenty years spent as a Montessorian.  As an Early Childhood Montessori teacher Elena thrives on the combination of chaos and structure that comes with working daily with preschoolers\, finding no greater source of joy than casual conversations with three year olds. As a school director Elena is dedicated to creating a school community that is welcoming\, empathy centered\, and accessible. Working in a growing area with very few Montessori schools Elena is invested in cultivating Montessorians and growing access to Montessori for both students and teachers. \n\nElena has her BFA in Photography from the Maryland Institute College of Art\, her MACTE Early Childhood credential\, and her Masters of Arts in Montessori Leadership from Sarasota University. Elena is a member of the Montessori Association of North Carolina’s Education and Governance Board. She is also a board member of the LGBT Center of the Cape Fear. \nOriginally from Durham\, Elena has lived in Southeastern North Carolina since 2012. She has two small(ish) children and spends her free time trying to convince them to wear socks. Additionally she enjoys floating in the ocean\, running\, and photographing birds.

SUMMARY:(FREE) Montessori Colloquium: Courageous Conversation With Cassi Mackey
DESCRIPTION:Join Sarasota University and Cassi Mackey on March 19th at 7PM ET for an insightful webinar on Courages Conversations. When you think of Courageous Conversation\, think connection\, understanding\, integrity\, authenticity\, empathy\, and curiosity.  Think school transformation. \nWhen school communities embrace and practice Courageous Conversations it enhances the faculty and staff’s capacity to serve as effective agents of success\, it provides structure for the highest level of collaboration\, alignment\, and partnership within the school community\, and it helps with sustainable change. It allows us to live up to our highest potential as Montessori practitioners. \nWe invite Montessori schools to create a culture that engages in Courageous Conversation as a community practice\, creating a community that actively brings issues to the surface challenges and celebrates the thinking and logic of differing points of view\, thereby managing problems and discussing concerns that may otherwise go unaddressed and unresolved. Effects can range from minimizing gossip and venting to the building of trust in and consistency of a community’s handling of difficult issues. \nAnd since we cannot teach what we do not practice\, teachers’ understanding of and willingness to engage in Courageous Conversation is imperative to help ourselves\, our families\, and our  students develop intrapersonal and interpersonal skills. Courageous Conversations are important in both the school\, classroom community\, and in homes. \nPlease register in advance for this meeting\, and feel free to share the registration link with your friends and colleagues: \nhttps://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJ0tduqgqDIqHdBKhZDbWq9RRWXCGNZyZlL0 \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. \nAbout Cassi Mackey: \nCassi Mackey\, M.Ed.\, has been in the Montessori field for 30 years as a Montessori lead teacher and Montessori school principal. She is currently an American Montessori Society (AMS) School Accreditation Commissioner\, a trainer for the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) Administrators Certificate Course\, an Instructional Guide for the Center for Guided Montessori Studies (CGMS) Leadership Certification Program\, and a mentor for the Greenspring Center for Lifelong Learning Leadership Mentor Community. She has also completed the AMS Anti-bias Anti-racist certification course and is active in AMI’s Voices of Educateurs san Frontiéres. Cassi consults and provides advice to Montessori communities that are intent on generating positive and lasting change through the Montessori pedagogy.  \nFun fact. Cassi taught with her husband\, Pete\, in an upper elementary classroom and their dog\, Truck\, was their classroom pet. So\, Montessori was all in the family.  \nContact her via email at cassimackey11@gmail.com. \n  \n
