Adam W. Darlage, Ph.D. Faculty in College of Education
Adam Darlage is a dedicated educator whose journey intertwines an appreciation for historical and cultural scholarship with a commitment to empowering learners of all ages. With a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago Divinity School, earned in 2009, Adam began his career as a scholar of religion before finding his calling as a Montessori guide. For over fifteen years, he has brought his passion for interdisciplinary learning to DuPage Montessori School in Naperville, Illinois, where he has inspired his Elementary and Middle School students with the principles of Maria Montessori’s cosmic vision.
In addition to his work at DuPage Montessori, Adam shares his expertise as a part-time instructor of World Religions and World Mythologies at Oakton College in Des Plaines, Illinois, where he enjoys teaching his classes through a pedagogy inspired by his work as a Montessorian. He has found that student engagement is best cultivated by following his students’ interests and he is excited to engage Strengths Based Learning at Sarasota University, continuing his commitment to innovative educational approaches.
Adam’s journey into Montessori education deepened between 2014 and 2016 when he earned his Elementary training from the Center for Guided Montessori Studies (CGMS), achieving 6-12 certification through the International Montessori Council. Since 2018, he has contributed to CGMS as a consultant, serving as a Practicum Advisor, Field Consultant, and Instructional Guide.
Adam has presented at numerous conferences and delivered webinars on diverse Montessori topics. His presentations often explore themes central to cosmic education, community building, and the transformative power of auto-education. Drawing inspiration from thinkers like Maria Montessori, Joseph Campbell, and many others, Adam connects the insights of the past to contemporary educational practices.
Beyond the classroom, Adam’s life is rich with connections to family and community. An avid soccer coach, he finds joy in mentoring young athletes and cherishing time with his loved ones.
