Ayize Sabater, Ed.D. Faculty in College of Education
Ayize Sabater, Ed.D., is a dynamic social entrepreneur, researcher, author, and thirty-year educational trailblazer. He is the author of Tell’n Children Our Story and has earned degrees from Morehouse College, Wesley Theological Seminary, and Morgan State University, as well as a Montessori Adolescent Diploma.
Dr. Ayize has co-founded several organizations, including an independent Black school in Atlanta and a Montessori public charter school in Washington, D.C. He has been featured repeatedly as a keynote speaker and has presented internationally.
Throughout his career, Dr. Ayize has received numerous awards, including an Educational Excellence Award from First Lady Michelle Obama and the 2011 National Morehouse Man of the Year Award. He has published research articles on family engagement, culturally relevant pedagogy, and Montessori education, especially for Black communities.
Dr. Ayize has been featured on television, radio, and in print publications, including The Roland Martin Show, The New York Times, and Black Enterprise. He has also presented alongside Dr. Charles Finch, Dr. Joyce King, Dr. Molefi Asante, and SNCC activist Dorie Ladner.
In addition, Dr. Ayize co-founded the FM radio show #UMustLearn and the philanthropic Black Montessori Education Fund. He also served as the first Black Executive Director of the national Montessori organization AMI/USA from 2020 to 2024.
