Mary Carpenter, M.S. Director of Library Services
After graduating from the University of Texas – San Antonio, Mary Carpenter started her career in Houston, TX, as a third grade teacher. With a passion for books and later for computers, she went on to set up a new computer lab for PK-2 students at her school. She developed a curriculum that integrated computer skills with reading and math using educational software. During that time, Maray finished an M.S. in Education with a focus on integrating literature throughout the curriculum. She also taught beginning reading and writing courses for incoming freshmen.
As technology advancements in education expanded, so did her career. She took a new position as Campus Technologist, where her ongoing passion for books and reading prompted her to complete her M.S. in Library and Information Science. With this degree, she expanded the role of what was previously a “librarian” to library management, which combined all of her passions. Mary retired recently, leaving herself open for her next adventure, which currently happens to be Sarasota University’s acting director of library services!
